Honest Work (honestwork.study) is an educational tool designed for teachers to create pedagogical guidance for assignments. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we use it.

Data We Collect

What we collect:

Email address: Used to identify your account and determine premium status.
Payment information: Handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy (our payment processor). We never see or store your credit card details. Lemon Squeezy acts as the Merchant of Record and handles all payment data, tax, and financial compliance.
Session cookies: Essential cookies that keep you logged in. No tracking or analytics cookies.
Usage metrics: We track the number of API calls for service management. This data is aggregated and does not track individual user behavior.

Student Privacy: To protect student privacy and comply with COPPA, do not input student names or personally identifiable information. Use generic descriptors like "8th grade class" or "student struggling with fractions."

Generated Content: We do not log or store the prompts, analyses, or instructions generated by the service. Debug logs may exist client-side only.

Data We Do Not Collect

Tracking pixels or analytics scripts (Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, etc.)
Student data or personal information about minors
Generated prompts or instructional content
Credit card details (Lemon Squeezy handles all payments)

We do not sell user data to third parties.

How We Use Your Data

Account management: Your email identifies your account and premium status.
Service delivery: Session cookies maintain your login state.
Customer support: If you email us with issues, we use your email to respond.
Product improvement: Aggregated usage metrics help us improve the service. Feedback requests are opt-in.

Data Retention and Deletion

Account data: Your email is retained while your account is active. Upon account deletion, we remove your email and associated data within 30 days.
Payment data: Managed by Lemon Squeezy (see their privacy policy).
Generated content: Not stored by our service.

To delete your account, email aj.gonzalez.dev@gmail.com with "Delete My Account" in the subject line. We will process the request within 7 days.

Third-Party Services

We use the following external services:

Lemon Squeezy: Payment processing and subscription management. As our Merchant of Record, they handle all payment data. Their privacy policy.
Vercel: Hosting and infrastructure. Their privacy policy.
AI Providers (Anthropic/OpenRouter): Assignment data is sent to AI models for instruction generation. These providers do not store data beyond temporary processing.

Security

We take reasonable precautions to protect your data:

HTTPS encryption for all connections
Secure database storage
Environment variables for API keys (never exposed client-side)

Terms of Service

Agreement to Terms

By using Honest Work, you agree to these terms. This is an early-stage service that is actively being improved.

Service Description

Honest Work helps educators create pedagogical guidance for assignments. You provide assignment information, and we generate instructional text designed to encourage student learning and critical thinking.

Eligibility

Designed for teachers and educators (K-12, higher education, tutors, etc.)
Users must be at least 18 years old
This is an educator-only tool, not for student accounts

Account Responsibilities

Keep login credentials secure
You are responsible for all activity on your account
One account per person (no sharing subscriptions)

Acceptable Use

Permitted uses:

Creating educational instructional materials
Lesson planning and instructional design
Differentiating instruction for diverse learners
Legitimate educational purposes

Prohibited uses:

Generating content that is illegal, harmful, or violates others' rights
Inputting student personal information (names, addresses, grades, etc.)
Attempting to break functionality through spam, automated requests, or system abuse
Reselling or redistributing generated content as a commercial product

Student Privacy Reminder: To comply with COPPA and FERPA, do not input student names, grades, or other personally identifiable information. Use generic descriptors like "4th grade student" or "learner struggling with multiplication."

Payments and Subscriptions

Honest Work offers a free tier and paid subscriptions:

Free Tier: Limited usage per day with 30-second processing time. No credit card required.
Paid Plans: Subscription-based access with instant processing and unlimited usage. Billed monthly or annually through Lemon Squeezy.
Merchant of Record: Lemon Squeezy handles all payment processing, tax collection, and invoicing. Your purchase is from Lemon Squeezy, who provides access to Honest Work.

Refunds and Cancellations

Refunds: All purchases are final. Subscriptions are digital services and non-refundable.
Cancellations: You can cancel your subscription at any time. Access continues until the end of your current billing period.

Intellectual Property

Your content: Generated instructional content belongs to you. Use it as needed for your educational purposes.
Our platform: The Honest Work platform, design, and code are our property. Do not copy, redistribute, or reverse-engineer the service.
AI-generated content: AI-generated content may not be copyrightable under current law. We make no ownership claims to AI outputs.

Disclaimers and Limitations

Service status: Honest Work is actively being improved. There may be bugs, downtime, or feature changes.
No warranties: The service is provided "as is" without guarantees of uptime, accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose.
AI limitations: AI-generated content is a suggestion. Educators should review and adapt all generated materials.
Liability: We are not liable for damages, lost data, or issues arising from use of the service. Use at your own discretion.

Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or engage in abusive behavior. We will attempt to notify affected users and provide an explanation.

Changes to Terms

These terms may be updated as the service evolves. We will notify users of significant changes via email or site notice. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by applicable law. Disputes will be resolved through good-faith discussion when possible.
